MOTS-c and NAD+: differences that matter when comparing

MOTS-c and NAD+ may appear together in a catalog of research on cellular processes. That does not mean that they are the same type of material or that their presentations can be compared as equivalent.

FAST RESPONSE

Is NAD+ a peptide like MOTS-c?

No. NAD+ is a coenzyme and MOTS-c is a peptide. Sharing a catalog or “longevity” label does not establish equivalence of composition, evidence, or research purpose.

MOTS-c is a peptide

The original work by Lee and collaborators describes MOTS-c as a 16 amino acid peptide associated with a mitochondrial genome sequence. That research description identifies a molecule; it does not alone establish a clinical application for a commercial product.

In a material request, check name, sequence or declared identity, modifications and reference. The COA must correspond to the proposed lot.

NAD+ is a coenzyme, not a peptide

PubChem identifies NAD(+) as the oxidized form of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, a molecule involved in oxidation and reduction reactions. Its structure and chemical nature differ from those of a peptide.

Therefore, being listed in a peptide store does not change its classification. It is advisable to review the chemical form, presentation, identity and specifications of NAD+, instead of simply reusing data from another reference.

Do not compare milligrams as if they expressed the same thing

A number of milligrams is a mass, not a universal measure of activity or equivalence between molecules. Ten milligrams of two different compounds does not necessarily represent the same number of molecules, the same molar concentration, or the same role in an assay.

If you need molarity, you must know the molecular mass of the specific chemical form and the final volume. The calculator on this blog only shows nominal concentration by mass; it does not calculate biological equivalences.

Document each reference separately

When ordering multiple molecules, request a separate quote line and documentation for each one. Record the conservation conditions of each material and avoid assuming that sharing commercial category implies sharing stability.

The supplier's guidance and test design should determine the working conditions. Claims about aging, metabolism or performance require specific evidence and are not inferred from a label.

What measuring a molecule in the body does not prove

Finding a molecule in the body or relating its levels to a phenomenon does not prove that administering it produces a benefit. Research on a biological function, the observed association, and testing an intervention answer different questions.

In the founding study of MOTS-c consulted, mechanisms were investigated using cellular and animal models. That type of work helps formulate hypotheses; It does not in itself provide an indication, a guideline or a guarantee of results in people.

Frequently asked questions

Is NAD+ a peptide?

No. It is a coenzyme of a different chemical nature, although it appears in catalogs together with peptides.

Can I compare MOTS-c and NAD+ by price per mg?

You can compare costs within the same reference and format. The price per mg does not establish functional equivalence between different molecules.

Does a study of an NAD+ precursor show the same for NAD+?

Not automatically. The specific substance, formulation and intervention of the study must be identified.

Does reconstituted MOTS-c always expire in thirty minutes?

This universal deadline cannot be set based on comments on a forum. Request information about the preparation and the test conditions.
